I have to admit it was an enjoyable experience watching the movie with friends, I am a Comic Artist and I love superheroes but inside I can tell that I won’t be revisiting this movie again.
Because this is a comedy, the character of Deadpool who knows he’s in a movie made me think of a quote:
“It’s funny because it’s true.”
That’s what came to mind when I came out of the movie. Deadpool makes fun of Disney, the corporation that makes these movies. So one might think wow, the balls to make fun of themselves in a movie like this.
Although it’s healthy to laugh at your problems, laughing at the problem does not solve the problem.
Meaning Deadpool and I am sure more characters will be breaking the 4th wall to do an “aparte” with the audience to make fun of the system these actors and directors are part of. The truth is they will still be part of it. Companies will make the same kind of movies as long as they make money and yes in hindsight for us too it’s funny because it’s true.
They can make fun of it and still keep doing the same thing. In a way they make fun of Disney on our behalf, so we can feel like we’ve done something by watching the film and laughing with them, at the big corporation.
So what is the solution you ask? I truly believe that anyone’s energy is put to good use when we stop complaining and frustrating ourselves, and use that energy to create things with friends that we will be happy with.
This actually pushes me to work more on my little short story satire comics which I neglected for a while as I was busy organizing events for our art magazine.
