Making ART, without any pressure to change the world, is good. Because if you can make art and express yourself, that in and of itself shows the quality of the society that allows you to do such things and is a sign of freedom in my opinion. If Art is a luxury available to most, that is a good thing. I feel like the art should, in a sense, speak for itself in lieu of the artist or curator giving the detailed description of what it means. Imagine you go to a movie and before the movie starts the director pops on the screen and describes the whole movie.
And if there is a confusion in the interpretation of the artwork, it’s ok, especially for an artwork abstract in nature, The abstract nature gives way to so many limitless interpretations that gets squandered by descriptions that take the form of an essay. What I am saying is that Art, UNLIKE a product aided by its label showing ingredients, has to be allowed to live on its own and not depend on an explanation. That’s what I love about abstract Art is that it reveals more about who you are to yourself, but what do I know I am just a cartoonist.
