Cartoon blog day 11: Minimalism

Two years ago I watched a documentary aptly named MINIMALISM. At the time I was jobless because that’s when I quit my previous job to pursue my dream of making comics and sharing my ideas with cartoons. Needless to say I needed money and I had to move from my expensive apartment, Actually I move constantly as I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, I left India after graduating from high school, I lived in France, I lived in UK for an exchange program, then I went back to France and left to work in Germany after graduating from University. While in Germany I moved to two different cities and then I came to Bangkok, Thailand where I am correctly living on a teacher’s salary.

So I had to detach myself from the items I have bought because I hate moving and I wanted to travel light. After watching the documentary I realized that especially when it comes to clothes I only wear 60% of what was in my wardrobe, again and again. Your ratio maybe different. So I decided to donate the 40% and I still to this day I don’t miss those clothes.

So i decided to buy new clothes only if the ones I have become unusable which means I would not ADD but only REPLACE maintaining the inventory.

Now for so many people who are true minimalists this is not exactly what is Minimalism hey that’s why I made today’s Cartoon.

So far it’s been easy for me. First, I save money by not impulse buying T-shirts that I would never wear after a first time. second, I learned through a friend that we make way many clothes than we need, and after watching an episode of John Oliver’s LAST WEEK TONIGHT about clothes and fashion, I am sure they still use child labor to produce these clothes, because we can’t check these big companies and their subcontractors constantly.

I know it’s like finding  a global reason to continue doing what you decided to do because you wanted to save money I read in the book Enigma of Reason by Hugo Mercier and Dan Sperber that in most cases we make decisions and find reasons for them afterwards.

Cartoon blog day 10: Halloween pick-up line

Dressing up as Batman can give you courage. In the future I will make a longer post dedicated to the character of Batman. People always say that Batman doesn’t have superpowers but for me HE IS the SUPERPOWER.

All this to say don’t be afraid to approach that lady as long as you keep your lines respectfully fun. This happens a lot because all ladies I am attracted to, is taken.

Hey just because she has a boyfriend, it doesn’t mean she is happy right? RIGHT? Oh my god I’m an awful person.

Cartoob blog day 9: Attachment

We are not talking about e-mail attachments, as I get older I begin to understand that we need a healthy balanced distance between the things in our lives. Whether it’s SPORTS, WORK, or playing VIDEO GAMES you have to have a healthy distance from these bubbles.

Don’t get too obsessed with WORK because we don’t live to work, we work to live; Don’t get too obsessed with SPORTS at the end of the day it’s a game with people sometimes not from the same country wearing the same uniform to play; Don’t get too attached to hobbies like GAMING well because you need to have also a social life.

Now you might say it’s easily said that done…

This is where ART comes in. I have realized that the test to see whether you are too attached to something can be revealed when you are having conversations about that (those) particular bubble(s). Because conversations keep things in check, not only individually but for societies. And what is better than to laugh at yourself when a stand up comedian makes fun of a gamer in a clever way. You may feel uncomfortable at first but STAND UP comedy done right is ART and your laughter can be liberating and put things in perspective which is why I firmly believe in the idea of artists to say what they want.

Bonne journée.

Cartoon blog day 8: Texting

I am not the first person this happens to, nor is it the first time that it happens to me. I go meetups in Bangkok where I meet new people. We have interesting conversations, then whether it’s a man or a woman they give you their contact. Then you ask them whether they want to go for a beer, or hangout and talk about stuff. And then SILENCE. I tried to find out why in the beginning but now I gave up I just move on because now I have a lot other things to do. Like my daily cartoons, my monthly webcomic series and my Youtube videos on my channel. What do you guys think, do these people realize they made a mistake? Or were they drunk at the event when they gave their contact details? I wouldn’t mind if it was an e-mail because sometimes people forget to check their e-mail but now everybody has their smartphone on them and the notification must appear on their phone.

Cartoon blog day7: Mind and social media

I also have a Youtube channel called MOVIE MESSENGER where I talk about movies and make podcasts about a wide array of things. We shot a shortfilm, well there is no story it’s just me and my friend Vidhvat talking about how we are tired of people complaining about everybody staring at their smartphones.

We tried to argue that in order to move forward we need to think about to incorporate this change in healthy way instead of dismissing changes completely. I mean WE WANTED THIS, and technology is a tool it becomes what we make of it.
