CARTOON BLOG DAY 41: Is self love overrated?

Dramatic lighting : Me interrogating people who like their own posts on social media.

I have  a theory that hatred towards others is the result of a projection we make of ourselves onto others, when these projections represent what we consider positive sides of ourselves we like that person and if these projections represent what we consider negative sides of ourselves we hate that person.

So people who actually hate other people hate a part of who they are inside.

I have heard of self love a lot of times. When someone says that they are not attractive their best friend (to console him/her) tells that person, “you need to like yourself otherwise how would others like you?”

But love doesn’t make you a better person. self awareness does. So try to understand yourself and try to improve yourself on a day to day basis. You can admire other people, you can even have mentors, but don’t compare yourself to others (which we naturally do). Just try to be the best version of yourself you can be and don’t be afraid to talk about it. Talk with your friends but also talk with strangers because they will be honest and won’t be afraid to offend you.

Don’t just love yourself, find a good reason to love yourself.

Cartoon blog day 18: Indian eating habits

I have to admit I’m an Indian who eats beef. Not only beef, I eat whatever I like.

CBD18 Indian eating habits.jpg

I want to clarify some things about India that I find some people still get wrong. Most Indians don’t eat beef for religious reasons and usually they are HINDUS, which means their religion is HINDUISM, not to be confused with HINDI which is the official language of India and one of the many languages spoken in India.

So HINDU is not HINDI.

And Indie movies is not short for Indian movies, it’s short for Independent movies.

I respect people who warn me that it’s pork or beef when I order something which means that it’s something that people know about Indians.

So why do I eat whatever I want? First I was raised catholic even though I don’t practice. I go to church only because my mother wants to go to church. I do pray sometimes unbeknownst to be.

For a long time I was following this quote I heard somewhere:

I don’t believe in GOD but I am afraid of him.

But actually that wasn’t it. I believe in god but I just don’t believe in the definitions, specifications which we are given from whatever religion it might be.

Just like I believe in LOVE I don’t believe in the Commodification of LOVE.

Cartoon blog day 15: Projections vs reality

CDB15 Projections vs reality

I am not going to argue about  the existence nor the definition of LOVE, at least not yet. But I do want to talk about our mental projections onto people.

When I look back on my relationships I’ve had with women, I realize what most men wouldn’t admit or maybe didn’t give any thought to:

The women I have been more attached to emotionally reminded me in some way of my mother.

There, now that I’ve admitted that let’s hope that you’ll feel more comfortable with me from now on.

We do put on a mask when go out, when we are out of our comfort zone. The same way you not only make assumptions about the people you encounter, you also assume their impression of you.

To finish today’s ramble, for those who want to engage in a relationship with that woman just based on her sexy looks just keep this in mind. JUST BECAUSE SHE IS SEXY IT DOESN’T MEAN SHE IS GOOD IN BED.

What? Too soon?

Bonne journée.

Cartoon blog day5: Peace and love

Apart from my daily cartoons I also publish a webcomic series every month which you can read for free on webtoon (https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/tech/list?title_no=183794)

I also make videos about movies on my Youtube channel MOVIE MESSENGER (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMqjiqRtbj3eAifYlWxOisA?view_as=subscriber)

On this channel you can listen to me and my friend talk about something that he came across which he shared with me and I have been thinking about it a lot which is:

LOVE EVERYONE, TELL THE TRUTH. (Ram Dass)

This was something that  I didn;’t know I needed but since I have heard this sentence it’s organizing my previous theories I have about how to live into a nice pile. Think about it for a moment and let it sink in until I catch you next time.

Cartoon blog day4: Fall in LOVE with LIFE

There is too much cynicism and making fun of everything to the point one can get confused about what’s important so it’s time I got cheesy on your ass:

CBD4 Meaning of life.jpg

Not once but twice i was asked to draw something for a freelance job and didn’t get paid. I was furious at first but then i came across an interview where Neil Gaiman (one of my favorite people in the planet) told a story about when he was starting as a writer, and he made a very simple argument for doing what you love.

I don’t remember the story but the lesson I got from that is if you decide to make a living doing what you love, something you enjoy, if you get paid you have the enjoyable experience of creating the work and as a bonus some cash. If you feel like doing something just for the money, if you don’t get the money, you have nothing.

Which brings me to today’s cartoon as cheesy as it is, as an Artist I am learning more and more to fall in love with the process and as a guy who is vaguely interested in spirituality, mindfulness, buddhism, I see the pointlessness of depending purely on results after results. Of course if you work for a company you are expected to pull in results but in ART it’s all about the way you felt when you create and if you are honest the person enjoying your art will feel it as well.
